Just Announced
Extension Window to Correct Past e‑Invoice Submissions
On 7 July 2026, the Prime Minister announced a new e-Invoice Voluntary Disclosure Programme running until 31 December 2027 — giving businesses a window to review, update, and correct past e-Invoice submissions without penalty. Here's exactly what to check first, before that window closes.

If You Wait
Past e-Invoice gaps stay uncorrected once the SVDP ends
Fines of RM200–RM20,000 per non-compliant invoice can apply
Missing self-billed e-Invoices may mean the expense isn't deductible
Any review or audit starts from a position of non-compliance
If You Fix It Now
Past e-Invoice gaps can still be corrected without penalty
You know exactly which transactions need a self-billed e-Invoice
Your documentation is ready if LHDN ever asks
Your team stops guessing and starts applying the rule correctly
Why this matters now
The Invoice You Received May Not Be the Invoice You Were Required to Issue.
Malaysia's e-Invoice mandate is no longer new, but still, many businesses assume that if they've received an invoice from the other party, their obligation ends there. It does not.
If your business pays overseas software subscriptions, rents premises, engages foreign workers, works with agents or distributors, or moves money between related companies, you are very likely sitting on a self-billed e-Invoice obligation you haven't fully addressed — and right now, there's a limited window to fix it without penalty.

Receiving an invoice from the other party does not automatically remove your e-Invoice obligation.
Common exposure pattern
01
The transaction looks ordinary
A familiar vendor, recurring subscription or internal payment enters the normal AP workflow.
02
An invoice already exists
The team assumes no further document is required because the supplier or recipient issued one.
03
The self-billed requirement is missed
No one flags the transaction type, counterparty status or cross-border treatment.
04
The gap multiplies over time
A small monthly oversight becomes a repeated compliance issue across many transactions.
05
The exposure surfaces at the worst time
Appears during an audit or a compliance check, and by then, Section 120(1) penalties may apply for every affected invoice.
What we’ll uncover
5 SVDP-Eligible Blind Spots You Can Still Fix Now
Discover the most common SVDP-eligible errors we see in practice and why the SVDP window may be your best opportunity to close these gaps before they escalate to an audit or compliance check.
Overseas Software Subscriptions
Discover why your director's overseas software subscriptions could quietly create a self-billed e-Invoice obligation — and learn the rule that catches even careful, well-run businesses off guard.
Cross-border trigger
Rental & Utility Payments
Determine who is actually responsible for issuing the e-Invoice on rental and utility payments, and understand how the answer changes depending on whether your landlord is an individual or a business entity.
Counterparty test
Foreign Casual Workers & Individuals
Apply the correct self-billed e-Invoice treatment when paying foreign casual workers or other individuals who are not carrying on a business.
Individual payment
Agents, Dealers & Distributors
Recognise that payments to agents, dealers, and distributors may still require a self-billed e-Invoice — even when they have already issued you an invoice.
Invoice misconception
Inter-Company Interest Payments
Determine when inter-company interest payments, including loans and advances between related companies, trigger a self-billed e-Invoice requirement.
